HOW TO MAKE A BEADED KEY CHAIN
|
 |
Customized key
chains can be made with just a few simple materials. They
are great for a group activity, fundraiser, fairs and festivals.
Beaded key chains can be customized with alphabet beads and
other decorative beads. Use alphabet beads to make name key
chains. Materials needed
to make custom key chains include:
Alphabet beads, pony
beads or any other beads of your choice,
Thick 1mm Cord - make sure that the beads you select will
fit two strands of cording,
Key Rings & Split Rings,
Scissors, Ruler

MATERIALS
One of the most common way to create a key chain
is to use a thick cord to string the beads. This cording
may be hemp, cotton cord, or satin rattail cord. The technique
involves using double the cording to string on the beads,
then knot the cording on the end to keep the beads from
falling off (see instructions below for more details).
When choosing the cording, make sure that two strands
will fit through the holes in the beads that you have selected.
Most cube alphabet beads, pony beads and other
beads with large holes can be used with 1mm cording. You
will also need key rings and split rings.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Attach the split ring to the key ring. A split ring is
like a miniature key ring, or a ring that coils around twice.
2. Cut the appropriate length of cord and fold the cord
in half. To figure how much cord you will need, determine
how many inches the beads will take up when they are all
strung together, then multiply by two and 4". After
you fold the cord in half, string both ends through the
split ring, pull the cording until the "fold"
of the cord is near the split ring.
3. Next, put the ends of the cording through the loop, pull
through
4. Tighten the cord around the split ring.
5. Thread both ends of the cording through beads.
6. Tie a double knot at the end to secure the beads. Trim
excess cording.
